Twelve renowned Chinese actors and directors, including Feng Xiaogang, Zhang Guoli, Chen Kaige and Wang Gang have called on movies stars and ordinary citizens alike to help the tsunami victims.

A temporary organization was founded yesterday (Jan 3), and a 24-hour hotline was launched for Chinese people to give support to the victims. The hotline is 6590 3388.

China's Red Cross Organization had received more than 20 million Yuan in donations by Monday afternoon.

The death toll from the tsunami has risen to more than 140,000 and the reconstruction efforts have attracted the attention of the international community.
