Hou Hsiao-Hsien Changes Direction
Latest Updated by 2004-11-09 15:15:22

Taiwan film maestro, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, is looking to make more popular films after the success of his film, Coffee Jikou, at the recent Venice Film Festival.

Next on his list for 2006 is a detective movie starring Hong Kong A-list actor Tony Leung and actress Maggie Cheung.

Also in the planning are four other commercial films that are a radical departure from his previous work.

Hou's films are acclaimed for their celebration of the aesthetics of everyday life and his characters; ordinary people who offer a deeper understanding of everyday life.
