DUTCHMAN Christijan Albers has been named as one of Minardi's drivers for next season as was widely expected.
The former German Formula Three champion tested for the team and impressed the bosses enough to gain a seat for 2005 having spent last season racing touring cars in the DTM.
"He has always been a naturally quick driver, but it is clear there is now an added maturity and focus with that speed," Minardi boss Paul Stoddart said.
"In short, we believe he is absolutely ready for Formula One, and we fully expect him to surprise a few people this coming season, particularly since Minardi also has ambitious plans."
Stoddart added that he was also impressed by the manner in which some Dutch companies have backed the driver.
"From a personal point of view, it is very gratifying to see a number of Dutch companies getting behind a talented young driver in order to help him take that final, and most difficult, step to the highest level of motor racing. I'm certain he will reward the faith placed in him."
Zsolt Baumgartner, who drove for Minardi last season, is favourite to be Albers' teammate.
