"That's it for me. I don't feel like playing anymore," said the player who has scored more goals for the Brazilian national team behind legend Pele -- 70 in 87 matches versus 95 by the latter.
After a career marked by great goals but also by a lack of discipline, Romario said farewell after his participation in his last club, Rio de Janeiro's Fluminense, after outstanding performances in PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona.
| At 38, the veteran striker is far from the Romario of 1988-1994,when he was one of the protagonists in the Brazilian victory in the 1994 World Cup.
His lack of discipline was one of the factors that led Luiz Scolari to leave him out of the team that won the 2002 World Cup, despite popular pressure from fans who wanted him back in the team.
Romario mentioned his wish to organize a farewell match in Maracana Stadium, although he admitted the possibility to suspend it if the fans are dissatisfied with him. "I won't have a farewell match to be booed," he said.
