Leadership looks at SARS

The Guangdong government organized a leadership team to supervise scientific research on SARS prevention and treatment.
Zhong Nanshan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was appointed the general consultant of the team.
The Guangdong government allocated 20 million yuan for the scientific research work, hoping to create a quick SARS test technology and effective medicines for prevention and treatment that can be applied in clinical treatment, in case the disease spreads or rebounds.
The Research Institute of Qinghua University of Shenzhen recently created an infrared temperature test device that only takes two seconds for a temperature check. The device does not touch the people and its accuracy rate is better than 90%.
The device is now being used in Shenzhen Luohu ports and checkpoints and will be widely used in other public areas including airports, railway stations and passenger bus stations throughout Guangdong.
