Relief for SARS-hit sectors
Latest Updated by 2003-04-30 13:34:59
The Shenzhen Municipal Government on Monday unveiled a relief package for sectors hard hit by the SARS outbreak.
Hotels, restaurants, tourist agencies, theme parks and retailers will get subsidies from the government or enjoy lower fees and taxes for various periods of time.
The relief measures also include free disinfections for enterprises in the service sector.
According to official statistics, travel restrictions prompted by SARS have slashed 80 percent of turnovers for the travel agencies in Shenzhen, 50 percent for hotels, 30 percent for restaurants and 10 percent for retailers.
According to the relief plan, companies in the sectors can suspend the payment of sewage disposal charges for up to three month after their applications are approved by the environmental protection bureau.
The health departments will also offer relief measures for these sectors. Non-public tourist attractions will be exempted from land use fees for three months.
Star-ranking hotels, large non-public tourist attractions and large restaurants will be granted electricity subsidies.
Tourist agencies will also get special subsidies, with details of the subsidies to be specified by tax authorities. Enterprises facing extra difficulties can apply for tax payments to be delayed.
If an infection is found within an enterprise, the health bureau will provide free disinfection and deliver free medicines to those who had close contact with the patient.
