Dining at a five-star hotel
Latest Updated by 2002-04-30 17:54:09

WHERE would you go for dinner if you were given a budget of 100 yuan? There could be a thousand answers even from just one person to that question. But I bet in those answers, few people would say "a five-star hotel."

Mr. Huang, a local resident, still remembers his romantic night at The Pavilion Hotel on Valentine's Day; "The restaurant was well decorated .The heart-shape door really impressed my girlfriend. The food was excellent too .but still, when I think of the dinner, which cost me 499 yuan, that is almost 10 percent of my monthly salary, I have to say it was a little too expensive."

A five-star hotel has always been associated with words like "expensive' in most people's mind, but this might change now.  As distinctive local restaurants with reasonable prices start to draw more customers, five-star hotels are cutting their prices to lure patrons as well. Nowadays, you can  easily enjoy a buffet dinner at  a five-star hotel in Shenzhen with no more than 100 yuan.

The Sunshine Hotel, the first five-star hotel in Shenzhen, is now promoting their buffet dinner at 96.6 yuan per person. "Local restaurants are not comparable with any five-star hotel in terms of atmosphere and service. The moment we heard about the buffet for less than 100 yuan, we went and had a try. It was an excellent experience," said Chen Xitong, a young band clerk.

The Sunshine is not the only one cutting their buffet diner prices. Novotel Watergate Shenzhen and Holiday Inn Donghua Shenzhen are luring patrons with low prices as well. At Novotel Watergate, it is only 58 yuan for a buffet lunch and 78 yuan for dinner. At Holiday Inn Donghua, a 50 percent discount is offered on the buffet dinner every Saturday and Sunday.Their prices now stand at 74 yuan for adults and 44 yuan for children.

From now on, why don't you let a buffet at a five-star hotel whisk you away into the world of luxury?
