TOURISTS looking for brand name products can find them in downtown Central where most of Hong Kong's finer department stores are located.
Stores at Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui abound with middle class goods. Prices are lower at Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok, but quality cannot be guaranteed.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board grants a Good Quality Service sign for reliable retailers and restaurants, and tourists are advised to shop in these stores. A hotline (00852) 2508-1234 is available for consumers to inquire about details.
Products are sold with marked prices at these stores. If a price is not clearly marked, tourists may call the HK Consumer Council at (00852) 2929-2222 to inquire about the prices.
RMB is accepted in local stores, however it's more convenient to use HK dollars. Money exchange businesses are available on the streets. International credit cards and mainland bank credit cards are also accepted.
Members of the Travel Industry Council of HK (TICHK) promise a refund if tourists are not satisfied with the goods within two weeks. For more information, please call the TICHK at (00852) 2807-0707.
Tourists may also call the HK Consumer Council for help at (00852) 2508-1234 if they felt mistreated at stores with the Good Quality Service sign.
