Veggie and fruit solutions for festival season
Latest Updated by 2003-12-30 14:08:06

WITH its celebratory atmosphere Spring Festival is a fine time for dining, but not always that way for some of those who are normally very careful about what they eat.

Amid the feasts and celebrations, they might let their dietary guard down and "treat" themselves to food and drink that they normally avoid.

Then the guilt and worry begins over the possible damage they might have done to their health by overdoing it at the banquet table.

If that all sounds familiar, here are some solutions to help you feel better about what you eat during this festive time.

Fresh fruits and raw vegetables have long been known as a "detergent" that cleanses the human body by removing harmful chemicals and waste through the digestive system.

You should consider eating seaweed. Seaweed as food and health source is recorded as far back as 800 B.C. in China. Seaweed (known also as sea kelp or algae) is rich in iodine, essential minerals, trace elements, amino acids and vitamins

Some people like to eat pig's blood. It's a good habit because it reportedly contains a protein that cleanses the digestive system of any hazardous metal particles that might accidently be consumed. It's also an excellent source of iron.

Black fungus and other fungus plants are reportedly helpful in preventing cancer and can help cleanse the blood.

Some fruits are help for beautifying the skin as well as a source for important vitamins.

Strawberries, tangerines and oranges contain a lot of vitamin C, which is good for preventing colds, bleeding gums, constipation and arteriosclerosis.

Apricots are rich in vitamin A, which is recognized as a cancer preventive as well as an energy source.

Bananas deliver energy, aid constipation and help reduce high blood pressure.

Other fruits such as papayas, apples, lemons, kiwis and grapefruits are also rich and delicious sources of essential vitamins.
