Food choices abound at the hi-tech fair
Latest Updated by 2003-10-14 14:42:52

HOW to feed participants at the China Hi-Tech Fair is as important an issue as any other for making the event successful. So a temporary "food street" was established on the north side of the fair center with offerings ranging from Kentucky Fried Chicken, Shenzhen Noodle King Restaurant, McDonald's, Peps and Coke, to cafes and dim sum eateries lining it from east to west.

Although the number of the catering establishments is smaller than last year's fair, each of them occupies a larger area and has more varieties of food.

A highlight of the street is its combination of Western and Chinese food. The KFC at the eastern end is very conspicuous for its size. Next to it is Shenzhen Noodle King Restaurant, a famous local brand of Chinese fast food, which is almost of the same size. A worker of the restaurant said each portion of food would sell for only 15 yuan.

Sources of KFC and McDonald's said both the restaurants would increase their staff to provide better service and food of better quality. They also indicated that they wanted to use the high-tech fair to increase their restaurants' popularity.

Aside from the food street, other restaurants are available in the vicinity of the high-tech fair center. Not very far to its west is a food street called Jingtian Food Street. Together with the adjacent Jingminda Hotel and the Haiyicheng Restaurant, the Jingtian area provides a rich supply of local specialties from all over the country. And they are only a 20-minute walk from the fair center.

Further than the aforementioned catering setups is the Zhenxing Road Food Street to the east of the fair center in Huaqiangbei business area, the most popular of its kind in the city. Located in the downtown area, the food street is within a 10- to 15-minute ride from the fair center.
