SHENZHEN is planning to establish a supervision system to guarantee food and drug safety.
A new package of plans on food and drug safety was published in the latest government gazette. It announced plans to establish a safety certification system and modern logistics mode, to standardize the production of Chinese medicines and improve medicine supervision by the end of 2005.
Once approved by the government, the city will establish an agriculture products quality reporting system to conduct and publicize periodic checks of fruit and vegetables and promote vegetable chain stores. Chemical residues in vegetables will be strictly limited to within five percent.
By the end of the year, a Chinese medicine supervision market will be established to protect legal trading of Chinese medicines and prevent the sale of fake medicines. Drug retail stores will cover all neighborhoods and 80 percent of communities.
