Foshan folk craft is steeped in history. Its craftsmen are good at paper-cut, illumination festoon, Qiu-se (including sculpture, carving, casting, panting and calligraphy, and New Year pictures in wood. These crafts are popular with residents, for they can be used as adornments at home.

The main material to make illuminations are bamboos, iron wires, silks as well as parings, rushes, and eggshells. With magnificent copper foil paper-cuts on its surface, an illumination looks beautiful.

Foshan Qiu-se
Qiu-se means autumn scenery, as well as a short form for ancient Foshan folk art. During the autumn harvest period, local residents will transform their waste and side products into imitated bronze wares and imitated porcelain wares.

Foshan is home to New Year Pictures in wood in south China, going back 500 years history.

Transportation tip: Foshan Folk Art Academe is located on #5 Zumiao Road in Foshan. Take a bus from Guangzhou Provincial Coach Station to Foshan at RMB13 each way, get off at Zumiao bus station, walk northwards along Zumiao road for about 10 minutes. It takes about one hour to get to Zumiao bus station.
