Guangdong Famous Folk Arts(3)-Potted landscape

This kind of miniature artwork is made of trees or rocks to reproduce the scenery in nature after procession and careful breeding. It is among the five artistic schools of potted landscape in China and popular in the Pearl River Delta, Hongkong, Macao and the central and southern part of Guangxi province. Potted landscape in Guangzhou and Hongkong is most typical. There are two types of potted landscape - trees, mountains and water. Potted trees are further classified as molded or natural.

Planting of potted trees prevailed among Guangdong people even before Ming Dynasty. Lingnan potted landscape makes do whatever is available, display unique patterns, lay stress on trimming and the selection of pots, and express morals by different names. It flourishes after the foundation of the People's Republic of China. Nowadays potted landscape is displayed in every units and public places. For display is established Xiyuan Potted Garden which contains more than 300 various potted landscape and is called "potted landscape's family". Residents in Guangzhou also love them ardently. They put them in the living room, on the balcony, making it a feature of a house in Lingnan regions.
