Homeowners demand to see city leader
Latest Updated by 2007-03-29 10:01:19

THE owners of a solitary house standing in the middle of a construction site in southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality said Tuesday that they want to talk face-to-face with the city's Party secretary.

Yang Wu, hailed as China's "hardest holdout homeowner" on the Internet, told the Beijing News that he would allow the authorities to demolish his house, even without compensation, if Wang Yang, the city's Party chief, came to visit him and his wife at their home.

"I will come down from my house immediately if he shows up," Yang said, "I have lots of complaints to talk about."

He also said the housing developer has connections with the local government.

Yang has to climb up to his house with the help of two iron tubes every day, as the developer has dug a vast area around his house.

The report also mentioned that Yang sounded exhausted when he called the newspaper. The city government hadn't responded to Yang's request as of yesterday afternoon.
