AN online confession claiming responsibility for the falling glass that killed Grade Four pupil Zhongzhong (not his real name) two months ago has drawn skepticism, condemnation and a police investigation recently.
Residents of Haolaiju, a building complex in Nanshan District, were surprised to find a message with the subject "I confess. It is me." on the community's BBS on Thursday (Aug 18).
"I am suffering due to my conscience. I am sorrowful for the kid. But I fear more of the cold bar. Please forgive me. I really dare not (to give myself in to the police). But I swear I will never do it again," the message read.
The user was found to be newly registered with the BBS, with no personal information given. The Nanshan police launched a probe but couldn't identify the sender as of yesterday.
The message was read by thousands of people with many suspicious of its authenticity. Some guessed the user was a poet or writer for his poetic writing style, while more replied to encourage him to surrender to the police.
"I think it is a mischief by an unreliable netizen. If he was serious, he should go to the police station rather than scratch randomly online," said Lei Xinping, a lawyer representing the victim's family.
Zhongzhong was killed by a piece of falling glass from Haolaiju on May 31, one day before International Children's Day. Unable to find the offender, his parents sued 73 families living in the building for joint responsibility.
