Adults could also come down with a rare disease called plastic bronchitis found in Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Daily reported Thursday.

But it was no cause for panic as it was curable and not infectious, the report said, quoting doctors from the city's respiratory committee.

Committee member Professor Xie Chanmao said white fibers found in children's air ducts at the Guangzhou Children's Hospital could also be found in adults.

The syndrome could be caused by asthma, Xie said.

People with asthma symptoms or kidney and cardiovascular problems should consult a doctor immediately if they have breathing difficulties, the report said.
