After teaching for more than 30 years in Nova Scotia, Candian educator Frances Webber moved to another Canadian province of Yukon in 2002 when she retired. Two years later she moved to Shenzhen.
"That's because I love working with children and I also want to take the opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture," said Webber, who is in her 50's.
Shortly after she came here, Webber joined the Shenzhen Daily Travel Club and met many members.
"Later, many of them became my good friends and even today, I still keep in touch with them by e-mail," she said.
One businessman in particular became Webber's Chinese teacher. In return, Webber began to teach him English.
Webber loves traditional Chinese culture. With the help of Shenzhen Daily staff members, Webber bought tickets to a classic Chinese musical concert in November and a Chinese ballet in December last year. Both left her with a deep impression.
Webber is now working at the International School of Sino-Canada in Nanshan District.
