Pakistani Zahid Sandhu expects to celebrate the Spring Festival this year with one of his Chinese students and his family.
Sandhu is a chemistry teacher at Shenzhen Oriental English College in Bao'an District. Before he moved to Shenzhen in August 2003, Sandhu taught in Fuzhou in Fujian, Hangzhou in Zhejiang and Zhuhai in Guangdong.
During the Spring Festival last year, one of his Chinese students invited him to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival with his family in the countryside in Fuzhou. "From my experience last year, I really didn't find any difference between the Spring Festival celebration and the New Year celebration in Pakistan," Sandhu said.
"Because people in both countries do almost the same thing such as having a big family dinner, putting on new clothes, visiting friends and relatives and giving lucky money to children," he said. Even so, he is still looking forward to experiencing Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations in the city.
Encouraged by one of his Pakistani friends who taught in China, Sandhu decided to come to China to try his luck after he graduated from the Punjab University in Pakistan in 2001.
