Xu Enfu, noted Canton painted porcelain master, began his artisan career from an apprentice in a local painted porcelain factory 40 years ago. Xu later studied in Guangzhou Arts College, where he gained knowledge of both Chinese and western paintings.

"Canton painted porcelain incorporated the techniques of Chinese painting and the colors of western art," Xu said. "I have also consulted Guang embroidery master Chen Shaofang about the color and light techniques used in western paintings."

"This art needs innovation in topics, design and colors," said Xu. "The aesthetic pleasure of this art should adopt new ideas by taking collectors' favorites into account."
