In the morning sunshine, a fair-haired lady walks down an old lane in Guangzhou's Liwan District, enters a workshop and picks up a needle and colorful thread. That's the moment when magic begins.
The lady, known to locals as Chen Shaofang, once embroidered a copy of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa and is devoted to transforming her western art knowledge into embroidery works.
Chen's work embodies Guang embroidery, one of the two branches of Guangdong embroidery which is one of the four famous embroidery style in China that was included on the Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
