"Lending A Helping Hand," a charity concert staged in Shenzhen on Wednesday, raised 770,000 yuan (US$94,000) for the tsunami-hit countries around the Indian Ocean.
Lasting five hours, the show, featured 100 Shenzhen performers and was so far the biggest held in Shenzhen to raise money for the tsunami survivors.
"All the performers tonight are giving free performances. They not only made donations but also devoted their time and energy to the people in the tsunami-hit countries," said Zhao Lizhen, director of the Shenzhen Branch of the Red Cross Society of China.
Staged in the Kingglory Shopping Plaza in Luohu District, the concert started at 4 p.m.
Many people went to the shopping plaza early in the afternoon to give donations at 30 Red Cross collection boxes. While singers raised the rafters at stage, enterprises and individuals gave off the stage.
A company, which refused to reveal its name, donated 200,000 yuan.
Shenzhen expatriates also took part in the show. American Mark Wolf, who has been living in Shenzhen for five years, has performed in several charity concerts in Shenzhen and also sang a Chinese song during Wednesday's concert.
Since the Red Cross Society of China initiated the nationwide collection campaign Dec. 31, the Shenzhen branch has collected a total of 6 million yuan.
