Triggered by the rapidly growing cultural need of local citizens, an issue is now being mooted as to whether to open a number of Guangzhou museums to the public free of charge.
Sources reveal that the current practice of one day free admission every month is difficult to manage, for the free-of-charge visitors to some Guangzhou museums has occupied half of the total amount of museum-goers, a fact unfavorable for the cultural relics preservation.
Some experts suggest an all-year-round free-admission policy for part of the museums, with an attempt to alleviate the pressure by effectively distributing the visitor-flow.
According to source with Bureau of Culture of Guangzhou Municipality, the free-admission policy is quite practicable, yet the problem of consequential lesser income for the museums should also the solved.
A government subsidy for this is also under feasibility study.
