Currently, divorced couple in China could get 50 percent of value of their property each, according to the law. But Shenzhen recently are working on a draft amendment, saying blameless divorced women could get up to 70 percent of value of the couple's property if the husband is found to have committed a range of crimes. The amendment aims at protecting the rights and interests of women.
According to Shenzhen Daily, the amendment allows female divorcees to lodge a complaint to the court within two years of the divorce if the former husband is found to have committed any such crime.
Women will also be given greater protection if their former husband has committed bigamy, cohabited with others, committed domestic violence and abused or abandoned family members, according to the amendment.
Female divorcees will also be able to ask for a one-off alimony payment for their children.
The draft amendment will be tabled to the standing committee of the municipal people's congress for deliberation by the end of this year.
