ALTHOUGH Shenzhen Library has strictly banned the entry of children under 14 from Saturday, many children went there with their parents yesterday (July 16).
When stopped by security guards at the entrance, the parents became upset upon seeing how disappointed their children were.
"I came here with my grandchildren in the rainy day in the hope that they could experience the modern library. But the staff here insisted that little children would do damage to new equipment and computers in the library," said an old man surnamed Wang, who was accompanying four children.
Library employees said children had misbehaved in reading rooms in the past few days and suggested parents take children to the old library on Hongli Road.
More than 10,000 readers visited the new library in Futian District yesterday.
"Some readers wear slippers and bring food under the cover of umbrellas, which is forbidden," said one security guard.
