THE Bao'an cultural relics management office has listed 646 heritage sites in the district after a two-year-long survey, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday (June 7).

The heritage sites include 185 family temples, 189 tombs, 170 towers, 43 studies and schools, 37 temples, nine Hakka constructions, seven Western-style constructions built in the early 1900s, three blockhouses, two monuments and one old port.

The new findings include a Yuan-Dynasty (1279-1368) kiln in Gongming. It is the earliest and best-kept porcelain kiln in Shenzhen. Archeologists unearthed 150 pieces of chinaware from the site, which have been very helpful in the research into Shenzhen's history. The more than 100 towers of Guanlan, which were also found during the survey, show the confluence of Hakka, Cantonese and Western styles of architecture.

The relics protection authority will publicize the list of cultural heritage sites and make plans to protect them, according to the cultural relics management office.
