Large amounts of ancient coins with high cultural relic values have been dug out of a building site at a 400-year old temple in Dengfeng County, Nanxi Town in Puning City, in eastern Guangdong Province. The coins were found to represent several dynasties, including Han and Tang Dynasties.
The temple is undergoing an expansion and reconstruction project. Construction workers dug out old coins located over 1 meter underneath the wall at east side of the old temple gate. The coins amount to nearly 10,000 with the total weight reaching 40 kilograms. Most of the coins are well-kept and were engraved with Tongbao typeface and a clear-cut flower pattern.
