Two giant porcelain pagodas, which will be the main tokens of the International Food Festival UTAGE 2005 in Osaka, were shipped Saturday to Japan from Jingdezhen, a city in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Measuring 5 meters in height and 8 meters in perimeter, each porcelain pagoda consists of 28 trapezium ceramic tiles of different sizes. The weight of the ceramic tiles ranges from 3 kg to 75 kg. The porcelain pagodas are covered with Chinese paintings depicting banquets of immortals and royalty.
According to Ning Qinzheng, the designer, painter and supervisor of the pagodas, the two porcelains cost more than one million yuan (about 120.5 thousand US dollars) and the knocked-down design is convenient for transportation.
Known as the porcelain capital of China, Jingdezhen has a history of more than 1,700 years and is one of China's biggest producers and exporters of porcelain products.
The international festival UTAGE in Osaka is one of the most popular expositions in Japan and is held every four years.
