Renaud Capucon attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, studying under the tutelage of Gérard Poulet, Veda Reynolds and Thomas Brandis; later, he moved to Berlin to study under Isaac Stern. He was the concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, which he led for three summers, working with the world's first-class conductors, such as Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Daniel Barenboim, and Abbado. In 2000, he was named "Rising Star" and "New Talent of the Year" by Victoires de la Musique, France's annual awards for classic music. In 2005, he was honored as "Soloist of the Year" by the same awards.
Renaud Capucon plays the Guarneri del Gesù"Panette" (1737) that belonged to Isaac Stern, bought for him by the Banca Svizzera Italiana (BSI).
