On lunar May 7th(Jun.4 of this year), the Huangqi Mother Dragon Temple in Foshan held a grand commemorative activity to celebrate the Mother Dragon’s birthday. During the ceremony, locals and travelers enjoyed a series of folk customs and traditions passing down from generations.

The Huangi Mother Dragon Temple, the only Mother Dragon Temple in the Pearl River Delta, is very popular among locals from Foshan and Guangzhou as well as the tourists. Its influence is extremely strong in Foshan. The worshiping Mother Dragon on her birthday(lunar May 8th ) could be traced back to 200 years ago when natives conducted celebration in different ways, featuring dragon boat races, lion dances, fund-raising, banquets,etc.

The festival, one of the most important folk customs in Lingnan area, showcased the unique charm of Lingnan culture.
