Tourist gala enlivens Doumen, Zhuhai [till year-end]

PICTURESQUE Countryside & Inspiring Doumen, the 1st Doumen Countryside Tourist Festival, kicks off at the Zhao (Luyi) Great Ancestral Hall of Nanmen village at 10:30am on May 1.

From May 1 until year-end, the gala is to encompass 18 activities of four categories in five towns, one subdistrict, and 20 candidates for the Top Ten Doumen Beautiful Villages. At the starting stage, six activities -- cultural, harmonious, ecological, yummy, folk custom and dynamic Doumen -- will present Song dynasty culture, Doumen Town Tourist Festival, variety shows in villages, 5km Lianjiang riverside tea tasting and an art and farm tool exhibition, Qianwu Town Food Festival & Tsingtao Beerfest, Sea Bass Festival, farm-work fun sports meet, and garden party.

The 1,000-year-old Imperial Kinsmen Sacrificial Rites are to be presented at 11am and 3pm daily on May 1-3 and last 30 minutes at the Ancestral Hall. The Song dynasty Coming-of-age Ceremony, witty skits, clapper talk, dance and other variety shows will be staged at Jiexia Manor nearby. Countryside sightseeing tours will also be conducted in the spring.

The Qianwu Town Food Festival & Tsingtao Beerfest will provide numerous indigenous food and snacks. Featured are Gouzai, a soup with rice flour, sweet potato and Chinese sausage; Cizai, a pie of glutinous rice flour with peanut or mung bean stuffing; Yezaici, a leaf-packed glutinous rice pie; Jiaozai, a starchy flour pie with lean, shelled fresh shrimp and smashed arrowheads, at the Qianwu Culture & Business Street from 9am to 5pm daily on the first three days of May.

One can fish for Baijiao sea bass at Nan'ao village of Baijiao town from 2:30 to 4:30pm. Meanwhile, a Dan Clan net-casting performance, Dan Clan dragon boat race show, On-Water Wedding, fun sports meet, catching chicken on the hill and other activities will also be available during the three days.

Lianzhou town will organise its Lotus Festival, litchi and longan picking, tea tasting, art and farm tool display, bicycling and other activities. One can also stay overnight in separate log cabins and wake up tobirds singing.

Two-day tour Route 1

Day 1

Arrive at Lianzhou town 5km Lianjiang scenic spot at 9am to view the art and farm tool displays and bicycle around for the countryside views, which may take an hour and half.

Get to the Luyi Ancestral Hall to watch the Imperial Kinsmen Sacrificial Rites at Nanmen village or view the Song dynasty Coming-of-age Ceremony at Jiexia Manor nearby, which starts at 11am and lasts half an hour.

Head for the Doumen Town Culture Square at noon for indigenous food and snacks, which takes an hour and half in total.

Tour Doumen Old Street at 2pm, watch juggling and folk opera shows or take an old-style jinrikisha around the street.

Visit Paishan Old Village at 3:30pm.

Stay overnight at the Imperial Hot Spring Resort for spa.

Day 2

Arrive at Nan'ao village of Baijiao town at 9am and watch On-Water Wedding and dragon boat race shows or take part in the fun sports meet, which takes around two hours.

Get to Qianwu Culture & Business Street at 11am to enjoy indigenous food and snacks, Tsingtao beer, Piaose Street Procession, folk opera, lion dance and martial arts, which may take around three hours.

Visit Huafa Aquatic Villa Provincial Wetland Park at 2:30pm, which takes an hour or so.

Arrive at Baiteng Lake Crocodile Island for the garden party at 3:30pm, which might take an hour.

Take a break at Times King City Station at 4:30pm for corporate culture.

Two-day tour Route 2

Day 1

Visit Huafa Aquatic Villa Provincial Wetland Park at 10:30am, which takes an hour or so.

Take a break at Times King City Station at 2pm for corporate culture.

Stay overnight at the 5km Lianjiang log cabins in Lianzhou town.

Day 2

Arrive at Jintai Temple at 8:30am for Buddhist culture and mountainous views, which may take two hours.

Tour around Doumen Old Street at 2pm, watch juggling and folk opera shows or take an old-style jinrikisha around the street.

Visit the Imperial Hot Spring Resort for spa and enjoy feature food at 3pm, which may take three hours.
