Starting with the traditional "tapping of the keg" on Oct 10, a five-day food festival will provide a wide range of German beer and food at the Ritz Carlton Guangzhou until Friday.

The FOODS international theater on the first floor of the hotel is the stage for the global cuisines. In the wake of the Japanese, Korean and Lebanon festivals, the restaurant caters German gourmets to echo Oktoberfest, the well-known German cultural event in October.

Daniel Schmidt, Executive Chef of The Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou

Daniel Schmidt, Executive Chef of The Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou hosts the event. His passionate introduction of the foods began from the desserts. He said, in his hometown Berlin, people buy apples from the supermarket and put sugar on the face of it before eating it, making them sweet and sour. The apple mash is another sweet and sour dessert when combined with egg liqeur and vanilla cream.

Berliner Eisbein (roasted pork knuckle with split peas and sauerkraut), sausages and bread are the must-tries to accompany the German beer. Here the chef has made dozen of kinds of meat like kassler (German-style smoked pork), grilled thüringer sausages, and beer marinated pork neck. Various light or salty breads are always accompanied with sausage, sauce or beer.

If you can not drink hard drinks, two special German soups Gaisburger Marsh and Chicken Ragout make good alternatives. Gaisburger Marsh is cooked with spaetzle, roasted onions, sourdough bread with butter and chive or pork fat, tasting meaty and savory.

During the promotion, beer is inclusive in the dinner buffet which is served at 18:00 to 22:00, with price of 428 RMB with a 15 percent gratuity.
