Guangzhou officials hosted a ceremony on the morning of November 12 at the Daxiaomazhan Academy to mark the commencement of the construction of the Guangfu Culture Museum. The project is located on the former sites of the Lujiang Academy and Yaozhou. Yuexiu officials will first restore the Lujiang Academy by 2014. A local folklore museum, the Guangfu Culture Museum will be devoted to the collection, research, exhibition and experience of Guangfu culture. Using traditional and modern exhibiting techniques, the museum will display Guangfu architecture, the Cantonese language and opera, local habits and customs, culinary culture, and arts and crafts. The restoration of the Lujiang Academy will be jointly undertaken by the city's Land Resources and Housing Administrative Bureau and Yuexiu District. The academy will be restored to its former splendor and serve as the main body of the museum. The restoration will involve an area of about 2,300 square meters and costs RMB92.24 million. The work is slated for completion in 2014. (Translated by Guangzhou Association of Foreign Affairs Translators)
