Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Festival will launch a brand new array of dance programs in various open air and indoor spaces on Shamian Island.

The 10 th Guangdong Dance Festival will present more than 30 dances, welcoming artists from 9 countries and from six cities from China including Hong Kong. Among them, five performances will be presented in the theatre. 27 performances are scheduled in Shamian at the Dance Carnivals on Sunday November 10 and Saturday November 16, bringing dance more closely to the local community. The performance will take place in several designated locations, including outdoor and indoor ones.

While the five theatre performances have opened their box and tickets are available at, admissions to the Shamian programs are for free. But since space is limited in some of the indoor spaces, holders of the Guangdong Dance Festival Pass will have priority in the admission to these spaces. Others are admitted on a first come first serve basis.

Micro-visionary by Guangdong Modern Dance Company

LIU Qi is a well recognized and award winning choreographer. The highly physical and virtuous movements in Micro-visonary set on the 13 versatile dancers of the Guangdong Modern Dance Company, is yet another endorsement of her masterly strength. To LIU, dance is the medium for her to (re)discover the world.

Layer Code by Beijing Dance/LDTX

SANG Ji-jia is one of the best known choreographers in China and is rapidly gaining international fame. Layer Code is SANG’s third creation with Beijing Dance/LDTX after Unspeakable (2007) and Standing Before Darkness (2010). In Layer Code, SANG imaginatively looks for the layers between the virtual world and real world to philosophically examine the possibility of humans reliving the past all over again. The work combines sound, light and media techniques to probe the true meaning of life.

Dialogue with Lucinda by NBprojects (NL)

Dévorer le ciel by Le Carré des Lombes"s (CA)

Created by Daniele DESNOYERS, Dévorer le ciel is a work that defies categorization, while its endless charm unfolds in the dancers" dynamic and free body language.

Best Man Show - Men Solos by Various artists

In this exciting mixed bill of solo works, six outstanding male artists from all corners of the world will bring a wide range of works that reveal the invincible power as well as the most vulnerable side of men.

In Search of the Grand View Garden, by City Contemporary Dance Company (HK)

Praised by the South China Morning Post as "the soul of contemporary art in Hong Kong", City Contemporary Dance Company will present In Search of the Grand View Garden, one of their masterpieces by Willy TSAO, in the hotel lobby of Garden Hotel on November 9th in a welcoming reception to the Festival’s local and international guests. The piece will be performed again in Shamian on November 10th. In the two very special but different backdrops, the special interior architecture of Garden Hotel and nature and culture escape of Shamian, choreographer TSAO will merge the dance cleverly into the environment. The dance and the environment inspire each other provoking new imaginations.
