Blending a thrilling story, dazzling costumes and technically demanding choreography with Tchaikovsky's beautiful score, Swan Lake has been one of the world's most popular ballets since its 1895 première. No other ballet in the classical repertoire can rival Swan Lake for drama, romance and intrigue.

Swan Lake is a tangled web of contradictions and contrasts. The two central characters, Odette the innocent White Swan Queen and Odile the malevolent Black Swan, are completely different in character and temperament; yet so similar in appearance that even Odette's beloved is fooled into falling for the "wrong" swan. At the end of this romantic tale, the lovers are united for eternity.

The roles are the highlight of any dancer's career – the technical demands are legendary, as evidenced by the 32 fouettés now synonymous with Swan Lake – but each ballerina must draw on immense confidence and maturity in order to cope with the emotional and physical pressure of performing the most famous roles in classical ballet.
