Tianhe District will bring in a series of festivities to celebrate the traditional Qiqiao Festival from August 7 to 14.

Qiqiao Festival, also known as Qixi Festival, celebrates the day that in Chinese mythology two lovers, Zhinü (weaver maid) and Niulang (cowherd), meet once a year. It is also the day for Chinese women to pray for having good craftsmanship. For the ninth time, Tianhe Government will hold a cultural festival in Zhucun Village, which is famous for its Qiqiao tradition listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.

The leading character of this year's festival is the establishment of a museum for the village's Qiqiao tradition. The museum is a complex of buildings led by Ming De Tang, the main ancestral hall of Zhucun Village, along with several smaller ancestral halls. In these halls, visitors can learn the history of the Qiqiao Festival by words, video or photos. They can also appreciate the delicate Qiqiao handicrafts. The exhibits, which include the award-winning masterpieces and the representatives of the amateur works from Zhucun, are carefully selected by experts out of hundreds of candidates.

The district government will hold many events, like handicraft competitions, forums and carnivals, in Zhucun and other tourist attractions in Tianhe.
