Lingnan literally means "the south of five ridges", covering an area that includes Guangdong, Hainan, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Lingnan School of painting is one of the major schools of Chinese painting and it fuses Eastern art and Western art. The traditional Lingnan art features a vibrant regional style.

This art exhibition displays over 100 pieces of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy on the theme of Lingnan landscape and customs. Those works are the fruits of a series of previous soliciting events, including a voting campaign for the cultural gems of Guangdong among the local experts and scholars specialized in cultural study and a poem soliciting activity promoted by a local newspaper.
