The 8th Guangzhou Art Festival is waiting for you next month

The Guangzhou Art Festival now is inviting the theatre fans to watch international theatre and dramas this summer.

This festival will be officially opened on May 4th, and lasted for 3 months. It aims to attract more people to appreciate domestic and overseas opera and strengthen the cultural exchanges and cooperation. The Opera Festival also enhance the cultural power and international influence of Guangzhou.

There are a total of 57 shows to be presented in 104 sessions, which are classified into four sections, namely "Power of Originality", "Homage to Classics", "Lingnan Art", and "Monday Star Theater".

Four major sectors

The “Power of Originality” section focuses on domestic and local innovative art boutiques in Guangzhou. The first original opera “Marco Polo” created in conjunction with the “One Belt and One Road” theme at the Guangzhou Grand Theatre opens the curtain of this festival, with a magnificent epic pattern. Combining the love and hatred of the soul-stirring, the legend on the legendary Silk Road is displayed.

The “Salute to Classics” section will be the biggest highlight of this festival and will feature a number of excellent domestic and foreign dramas, including a 20th century Chinese classic opera which has been performing 60 years and has performed more than 3,000 performances, "The Red Guards on Honghu Lake"; “A Dream in Red Mansions”, is a classic Shanghai Opera; "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", won 7 Oliver Awards, 5 Tony Awards, and was the first masterpiece of the British National Theatre to be introduced to China; and the most remarkable closing opera of this festival, "War and Peace", performed by the highest Russian art hall, the Mariinsky Theatre.

In response enhancing cultural self-confidence and promoting the art of opera, this festival also set up a special section , "Lingnan Art", to strengthening Guangzhou audiences' emotional attachment to local theatrical arts.

The "Monday Star Theater" serves as a platform for young artists to showcase their creative artworks. The performing troupes included the MEGA Studio, Ji'nan University, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
