Consulate Celebrates 70 years of India's Independence with Yugpurush

The Consulate General of India in Guangzhou as part of the celebrations of 70 years of India's Independence is hosting a stage drama “Yugpurush” in Guangzhou on 22 November 2017 at Grand View Theatre, 7F, Grand View Mall, No.228, Tianhe Road, Tianhe district Guangzhou.

The Play “Yugpurush” is an internationally acclaimed heart-touching and riveting portrayal of the profound spiritual relationship between Shrimadji and Gandhiji. The Play highlights the values of love, selflessness, diversity, truth and community building through the story of Mahatma Gandhi and Shrimad Rajchandra.Yugpurushbrings out a powerful experience of looking within oneself and upholding value of truth for self-transformation. It aims to spread Shrimad Rajchandraji’s values of non-violence and truth that shaped Mahatma Gandhiji’s strong beliefs on non-violence.In one of his letters to Gandhiji, Shrimadji wrote “the principle of non-violence has existed ever since the existence of violence. What is important is which one we utilize for the welfare of mankind.

Gandhi met Shrimad for the first time after returning from England in 1891 but even after he moved to South Africa, they continued to exchange letters. These letters played a pivotal role in shaping Gandhi’s character. Their honest friendship blossomed and Gandhi proclaimed Shrimad as his spiritual mentor. Although Shrimadji left his mortal body at a young age of 33 in 1901, Shrimadji’s letter and compositions were Gandhiji’s dear companions. Gandhiji would write about Shrimadji, speak about Him in speeches and discuss with close associates. Mahatma Gandhi remained indebted to the teachings of his mentor and now he is celebrated as the global messenger of non-violence.

The 2017 marks the 150th birth anniversary of the Shrimad Rajchandraji.Yugpurush is a 2-hour live play and performed all over the world and according to latest info it has crossed 950 Shows worldwide including USA, UK, Africa, Middle East. This play has been great success captivating audiences’ imagination from diverse backgrounds, ages and communities and left them spell bound and mesmerized whenever the play has been staged.
