A show featuring handicrafts from the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou opened at the China Cultural Center in Paris on Monday, presenting the creative development of traditional Chinese craftsmanship.

Titled New Jiangnan – Innovating Hangzhou's Traditional Handicrafts, the exhibition covers nearly 200 pieces of works created using five traditional materials: copper, wood, silk, paper and porcelain. They are however infused with modern twists to meet the aesthetic tastes of modern times.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yan Zhenquan, head of the China Cultural Center in Paris, said, "The exhibition is aimed at showcasing the charm of traditional Chinese handicrafts and promoting the integration of traditional craftsmanship into modern life, modern design and the new market today." He said he also hopes the show could help explore the creative development of traditional crafts.

The exhibition is part of the Chinese culture center's intangible cultural heritage shows and runs until July 7.
