The overseas exhibition tour for Feng Shaoxie’s “Maritime Silk Road” oil paintings has come to its third stop at the headquarters of ASEAN, Djakarta, Indonesia from Nov. 9 to 15. Following the previous two exhibitions in Bangkok, Thailand and Malacca, Malaysia, this exhibition showcased a total of 30 themed oil paintings throughout the week.
Feng Shaoxie is the vice-president of the Guangdong Academy of Painting and is a renowned oil painter in China. His series of works on “Maritime Silk Road” is a true pictorial record. All the paintings make people feel like they are personally on the scene.
Feng said, when creating these paintings, he focused on the cultural relics and historical remains; he tried to perceive the situation at that time by textually researching the historical materials and visiting the historical sites of Maritime Silk Road. Therefore, he came up with this series oil painting which gives the audience a more systematic impression of the Maritime Silk Road.

Co-hosted by the Mission of China to ASEAN, ASEAN Secretariat, Department of Culture of Guangdong and four other organizations from Guangdong, Feng Shaoxie’s “Maritime Silk Road” Oil Painting Exhibition re-traces the commercial ties and people to people connectivity of ASEAN-China relations. This is also the first oil painting exhibition co-hosted by the Mission of China to ASEAN and ASEAN Secretariat at the headquarters of ASEAN, which has extremely important historical and cultural significances.
Relations between China and ASEAN countries have a long history. Indonesia is an important stop of the Maritime Silk Road. In the beginning of the 15th century, Chinese mariner and explorer Zheng He conducted seven voyages to the eastern Pacific and Indian Oceans. He went to Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan in Indonesia and made great contribution to the development of commerce and trade between China and Indonesia.
