Vice Premier Wu Yi declares open of the new Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center

Crowds watch a fireworks display at the opening ceremony of the Sixth China Hi-Tech Fair at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on Tuesday morning.
The new Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center was officially declared open by Vice Premier Wu Yi on Tuesday (Oct 12) morning for the Sixth China Hi-Tech Fair.
Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai also addressed the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Shenzhen Mayor Li Hongzhong.
Also attending were other State and provincial officials, scientists, economists and university principals.
Other distinguished guests from foreign countries included Mohamed Jamil A. Mulla, minister of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia, U Thaung, Myanmar’s minister of Science and Technology, Ishfaq Ahmad, special adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Luis Manuel Rabelo Fernandes, Brazilian vice minister of Science and Technology and other officials from Shenzhen sister cities such as Brisbane, Australia, Gwangyang, South Korea, and Nuremberg, Germany.
Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center was packed with visitors.
Hall 1, covering an exhibition area of 30,000 square meters, is occupied by professional exhibitions featuring auto technology and related electronic products from home and abroad.
It is the first time the fair has exhibited autos.
Hall 2 houses two professional exhibitions. One has advanced manufacturing technology and products on display while the other has optical and lithographic display technology and products.
Hall 3 is the exhibition area for biology, agriculture and new materials. The exhibition booths for Futian, Longgang and Yantian districts of Shenzhen are also in this hall.
Advanced mobile phones are in Hall 4 organized by the Ministry of Information Industry. Covering an area of about 5,000 square meters, Hall 4 has 32 mobile phone manufacturers such as Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, LG, TCL and ZTE. Late-model mobile phones with heart disease detection functions and others made especially for children and equipped with GPS attracted a lot of attention.
Hall 5 is in two parts, with three conference halls capable of accommodating 3,000 people and a furniture exhibition.
Hall 6 is for State-approved technologies which are categorized as materials, information, textiles, equipment and manufacturing, medicine and biology and energy.
Hall 7 is for science and technology displaying the latest achievements of Chinese SMEs, universities and academies.
Hall 8 has exhibitions by overseas delegations, including those from Hong Kong and Macao, and more than 30 universities showing their latest scientific and technological achievements.
Hall 9 is occupied by exhibitions of various provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The business match service area is also in this hall.
For the first time, the exhibition has included a talent fair and at a separate venue at the old China Hi-Tech Fair Exhibition Center.
