A Shenzhen TV channel would be transmitted via satellite on a trial basis to viewers around the nation starting Friday, making it the first city channel on the mainland to be broadcast via satellite, the Daily Sunshine reported Thursday (May 27).
The new channel, focusing on information and entertainment, is operated by the Shenzhen TV Station (SZTV). Local cable TV subscribers would be able to access the new channel on Channel 22, the report said.
It will be broadcast in Mandarin and Cantonese 24 hours a day, featuring a broad mix of programs including news, talk shows and miniseries of Chinese and foreign origins.
The channel would also highlight a weekly program on the CEPA (Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement) process, the report said.
The new channel would enhance cultural exchange and economic cooperation between Shenzhen and other areas, and boost the development of the city's TV industry, a SZTV spokesman said.
Earlier reports said the station has recruited some 20 people and signed several anchorpersons to prepare for the new channel. It had also convened seminars in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong to enlist ideas for programs.
