Zhanjiang Gulf Bridge's two sections, with main piers torch in shape & arc steel box girder, joined on Jun 22nd, 2006. Upon completion, the bridge is expected to stimulate the logistics of Zhanjiang and even the whole southwest China and enhance the economic relations between west part of Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta area, which locates at the center of the south China province.
The construction of the long span cable-stayed started in July 2003 and will finish by the end of 2006. The bridge is designed to have a capacity to allow 50,000-tons-level cargo ships to pass through.

Background: The 3.981-km bridge project is part of the highway in the province starting from Huangpo Town in Wuchuan and ending at the juncture of national highway 207 and the industrial highway of Leizhou City.
