THE new expressway between Kaiping and Yangjiang in western Guangdong Province was commissioned Wednesday after three years of construction.
The new expressway is an artery of the provinces western areas the Nanfang Daily Web site reported Wednesday ( September 3rd).
Zhang Yuanyi, head of the provincial traffic department, said the high quality expressway was the first to be contracted under public bidding, resulting in savings of 10 percent.
The economies of cities along the road had taken off with some momentum, the Web site said.
Yangjiang plans to set up a province-level high-tech industrial park near the road with 42 projects attracting a total investment of 2.72 billion yuan. The projects are expected to yield 7.54 billion yuan in output value when production begins. It also anticipates an increasing number of overseas investors and tourists.
Kaiping introduced 78 projects over the past three years, involving an investment of 1.67 billion yuan. Enping, which is less developed than its provincial neighbors, sees the completion of the expressway as a golden opportunity for a surge in tourism and overseas investment.
