Huizhou was recently given the honor of hosting the 13th Guangdong games in 2010.
In recent years, Huizhou has held some other important sports events such as the National Track and Field Championships, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and China Rally Championship.
The cities experience in hosting large scale sporting events and its strong economy contributed to it being selected as the games host site.
