On February 8, the Guangzhou Taxation Work Conference announced that, last year the city's tax authorities collected RMB 185.395 billion in taxes and fees, representing an increase of RMB 29.985 billion or 19.29% and contributing RMB 45.436 billion to the municipal coffers.
Last year the state tax authority in Guangzhou collected RMB 106.905 billion in taxes, jumping 18.59% over the previous year, making Guangzhou the first city among China's semi-provincial level cities and provincial capital cities, to break the RMB 100 billion mark in state tax revenue; of this amount, RMB 17.636 billion is for the municipal coffers. The local tax authority in Guangzhou collected RMB 78.49 billion in taxes and fees last year, with a record increase in excess of RMB 10 billion.
In 2006, a total of 1,157 enterprises based in Guangzhou were awarded an "A" rating for tax payment.
