Accident insurance sales have soared since the crash of an airliner in Inner Mongolia on Sunday (Nov. 21).
There has been an increase of 20 percent a day in the sale of accident insurance at the Baiyun airport since the accident.
As well as more people buying insurance, passengers have started paying more attention to the type of aircraft they are likely to fly in, the Guangzhou Daily reported.
In Guangzhou, travel agencies say potential passengers preferred to fly in bigger aircraft such as Boeing 737, 747 or A 330 and 340 rather than smaller aircraft. There were now more inquiries about the type of aircraft rather than the price or discounts, one agency was quoted as saying.
Regional flights, which usually have less than 100 seats, are believed by most people to be not as safe as bigger aircraft because they tended to be more affected by turbulence. But aviation experts have given an assurance that the same safety standards apply to all passenger aircraft.
Despite the recent tragedy, flights from Guangzhou have been only slightly affected.
