The First China Small and Medium Enterprise Fair (CSMEF), is to be held from Oct.18-22 in Guangzhou.

Regarded as another Guangzhou Export Commodities Fair (Canton Fair), it is a platform for small and medium enterprises to show their products, exchange information, and promote investment, trade and technical cooperation.

The fair is organized by the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce and Guangdong Provincial People's Government.

More than 2,000 enterprises, higher institutions, research institutes and investment institutions from the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao had signed up for the fair, organizers said.

The fair will be an annual event coveing five major categories, including art and craft, textiles and clothing, household necessities, hardware and electrical appliances, food and beverages.

Statistics show the number of small and medium enterprises exceed 8 million in China, accounting for 99 percent of the nation's total. The industrial output accounts for 60 percent of the national total.
