The second generation ID cards for Guangzhou residents will be issued this July.
Guangzhou public security authorities are reminding residents to check their ID cards and hukou to ensure the successful exchange of new ID cards.
About 700 first generation ID cards have been found to contain errors and the owners are required to have them corrected at public security offices or police stations before June 30, the Guangzhou Daily reported Sunday.
The ID cards involve either duplication of ID numbers, or wrong Chinese characters or non-standardized home addresses. The mistakes result in significant inconvenience in registering driving licenses, credit card applications, airline flights, and social insurance payments among other things.
