Latest Updated by 2005-11-10 16:55:55

Thirty youth fashion designers will be able to showcase their talent, and fulfil their dreams in the upcoming sixth "Humen Cup" International Youth Design (Women's Wear) Contest.

The finals of the contest are scheduled to take place on November 12, as a highlight of the 10th China (Humen) International Fashion Fair, which will open a day earlier.

According to the preliminary results of the contest unveiled on August 23, a total of 30 creative youth fashion designers qualified to compete for the various final awards. Among them, 19 are domestic designers, with one from Humen, and the remaining 11 foreign contestants are respectively from Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Japan, Poland, Czech, Belgium, Portugal, Slovakia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The annual contest is jointly sponsored by the Guangdong Association for Garment and Garment Article Industry (GAGGAI), the Guangdong Association for Fashion Designers and the Humen township government.

Characterized by creativity, colourfulness, individuality and international vogue, the event received 2,689 entries from 3,128 designers from 29 provincial-level administrative regions in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan Province, and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, as well as 25 countries.

The theme of this session is "The Road to Create Beauty," intending to encourage youth designers to pursue, create and display fashion.

The preliminary appraisal committee is composed of Liu Yang, director of GAGGAI; Ji Wenbo, a top fashion designer in China; Jiang Ping, director of the Garment Department of the Textile and Garment School of Guangzhou University; and Su Enle, vice-director of the Art and Design School of Guangdong University of Technology.

Both Ji and Liu said in an interview that the quality of the contest entries this session is much better than that of previous ones, adding that the participating designers are generally capable of showing off various trends in international fashion as well as their own exceptional talent through the language of art.

Statistics show that the educational backgrounds of the contestants this year have significantly improved, with the number of postgraduates more than double that of the previous year.
